 Council Minutes

Council Highlights:

August 14, 2008

For information from the treasurer's report please contact the church office.

The ELC will repay all funds borrowed.  Enrollment is up but still needs to improve.  Jody is working on getting the ELC on internet search engines and Pastor is working on the yellow pages.  We are continuing to place flyers and brochures in local business and trying to get the rest of the door hangers distributed.

Pastor reported on the money raised from the parking event on July 4 and the money VBS raised for the Haiti mission.  Pastor asked all committees to begin regular meetings.  Council will do a committee fair in conjunction with our Fall Congregational Meeting.  Pastor also received positive agreement for a series of Cottage Meetings.

St. John's will not participate in HarvestFest but will try and participate in both ThorntonFest and HarvestFest next year.

We need to identify our delegates to the '09 Synod Assembly soon, as air travel to El Paso will fill-up quickly.  Leslie Young volunteered, with Jean Stahlecker as a backup.  Pastor was directed to ask the congregation.

Property-replacing the flooring in the bathrooms was approved.  Repairs will be done after next council meeting when funding can be assured.

We will begin doing security checks in September for anyone working with the church's youth.

Council agreed to ask the congregation for feed back on changing to one service year round.

Emergency procedures will be posted and an emergency weather radio (donated by Tom Berry) installed.

Council meets next on Thursday, September 11 at 7 p.m.
