I missed the Stewardship Kick-off and H.O.'s death and funeral have overshadowed this important time and important part of our faith life.  But how we manage our resources as Christian people is of ultimate importance and we need to refocus on our ministry together.

"To have faith and to hope means to engage hour by hour with life in such a way that our deeds express that which we hope for, while acknowledging the realism of disappointment, frustration, anger, brokenness, and even despair."

I know groceries cost more, gas is off the charts and some jobs are precarious.  But St. John's is a "bulwark", a visible sign of hope, a place to come, a body of hands and feet, a presence of God amidst the concerns and fears of our lives.  Our ministry here matters, not just to the members, but to the community even if they don't know that.

Making a stewardship commitment is a statement of ultimate hope and faith.  Ultimate belief that death, whether of the body or of the means to daily life, is not the final answer.

We have work to do in the world, ministry to carry out.  And God's gracious abundance has given us the means to do that ministry.  God's work, Our hands.

Let it be so,

Pastor Penni
